Few other icons symbolize The Bahamas like the face of Bahamas Goombay Punch, and no other sport symbolizes The Bahamas like sailing. In early 2020, the Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC), through Bahamas Goombay Punch, inked a partnership with youth sailor Craig Ferguson. With the global shutdown stemming from the COVID 19 pandemic, international championships were naturally also paused.
As travel restrictions eased, Craig was eventually able to participate in three international tournaments, and in January 2022 was selected as Sailor of the Year by the Bahamas Optimist Association.
“Early last month the Ferguson family reached back out to CBC to see if we would be able to sponsor Craig’s quest in mastering sailing. We were informed of the upcoming World Championships being held later this month in Turkey” said Karla Wells-Lisgaris, Brand Manager. “At CBC, where possible, we strive to support young Bahamians we are pursuing, and mastering, talents that can radically change the course of their lives. With sailing recently being acknowledged as the official sport of The Bahamas, we were happy once again to pair this effort with the unofficial soft drink of The Bahamas, Bahamas Goombay Punch” she continued.
“I am very grateful for the support that Caribbean Bottling has extended to me” noted Craig. “Your support allows me to represent my country at the highest level of sailing, in Turkey” he continued.
The 2002 Optimist World Championships takes place June 27-July 2022 in Bodrum, Turkey. The Bahamas will be represented by 5 youth sailors.
