#ThatsGold with Coca-Cola
The Coca-Cola Company has one of the longest standing Global partnerships with the Olympics in the world, and this Olympic Games they showed us that “Gold Moments” don’t only happen on the podium.


Coca-Cola limited edition Olympic cans. CBC issued two designs, one to celebrate swimming, and another to celebrate Track & Field.

#ThatsGold is the Coca-Cola Company’s global campaign in support of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The campaign is centered around the idea that not every special moment requires a podium to be golden! Gold moments are experienced every day from a family vacation, to success at work, or a refreshing beverage on hot summer day. Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC), local producer of Coca-Cola products, activated this global campaign locally in two phases.

The first segment was celebrating our national Olympic athlete, Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, who was one of the two Caribbean swimmers included in the Coca-Cola global campaign. During a meet and greet at the CBC facility Vanderpool-Wallace signed a limited number of official Coca-Cola Rio Olympic posters that were later distributed to a number of key sporting institutions, including but not limited to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and the National Sports Authority. Vanderpool-Wallace’s image can also be found at popular sporting lounges such as Twisted Lime, Cricket Club, Green Parrot, and End Zone, as well as grocery stores such as Super Value.

The second portion of the execution consisted of #ThatsGold pop-up activations. “This concept came about in a team meeting,” explains Cara Douglas, Marketing Manager CBC. “We were looking for a different way to reach our customers, and give them a special moment – and what’s better than a pop-up surprise!”

So far the company has activated four #ThatsGold pop-ups across New Providence. The first was a “Beach Day” theme at Goodman’s Bay beach on Emancipation Day, where over 200 persons were given a cold Coca-Cola, and a free gift. The second pop-up was on Bay St where over 100 persons were given funds to catch their bus home. Third was at the Thompson Blvd ESSO, where the first 30 persons to spend $20 or more at the pump got a $10 gas voucher to use on their next visit. For the fourth and most recent event the Coca-Cola team took over the Oakesfield McDonald’s location and rewarded every customer during the event that BIGGIE sized their meal with a $5 voucher and a free gift. At each event thus far all persons rewarded have truly felt like it was a GOLD moment for them, and felt the spirit of #ThatsGold.
