Lavardo “Shine” Sands Wins Coca-Cola Love Jingle Contest!

Jowelle “Solo to da Googal” Dill Also Wins CBC Choice Prize

Lavaro “Shine” Sands & Nikia Wells, CBC Communications Marketing Manager

Lavardo “Shine” Sands is the winner of the “Coca-Cola Love” Jingle Contest and has won a cash prize of $2,500. Sands won the award via public vote. Jowelle “Solo to da Googal” Dill also took home $750 and the CBC Choice Award, which was chosen via an internal vote, and was a surprise award for the contestants.

The Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC) received over 100 original entries from recording artists, around the country, for the “Coca-Cola Love” Jingle contest and 5 finalists were chosen to vie for the top award, including Lavardo "Shine" Sands, Sammi "Starr" Poitier, Rio "Jonny Cake" Johnson, Brandon "BJT" Thomas, and Jowelle "Solo to da Googal" Dill. Sands eventually received the most votes via online voting.

“Our team loved the jingles that we received, and we were completely blown away by the level of talent, quality, and artistry of the entries.” noted Nikia Wells, CBC Communications Marketing Manager. “Our entire team was genuinely impressed.”

Wells added, “It was a very tight competition. And, we loved seeing the outpouring of love for Lavardo, Sammi, Rio, Brandon and Jowelle. In the end, the Bahamas chose Lavardo as the winner and we could not be more proud to have his jingle be the sound of our summer campaign. Our team also cast their votes, and chose Jowelle as our CBC Choice Winner. We wish both artists all the best in the future.”

When Sands got the call that he was the winner he could not contain his excitement, and noted that the entire competition was something new and exhilarating for him. “The voting aspect honestly scared me, but it felt good [winning the Coca-Cola Jingle Contest], especially as a new artist. I figured, what did I have to lose.” noted Sands. “I want to thank Darien Francis, my producer, for helping me to create the jingle, and of course I want to thank Coca-Cola for the opportunity.”

Sands, who was a member of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force for a number of years, only started pursuing a career as a recording artist in January 2019.  “I had been performing with the Defense Force Band for years, and got to build relationships with other artists. But, I only recently decided to really go
